Galerie Maeght Georges Braque lithograph of  Profil à la palette, 1950 by Mourlot Freres (The Mourlot Brothers).

Near Fine oblong poster on thick matte stock, measures 19 3/4" x 28 1/4", one dent to right edge (visible in photo), some minor handling to edges, but will frame up flawlessly.

There's a little confusion about this print online, to clarify: this is not the limited edition of 275 which lacks the gallery text. This open edition was produced by Braque in 1950 for his exhibition at Galerie Maeght, and it is priced appropriately.

This work is significant in the historic sense because Braque was one of the first School of Paris artists to take an interest in multi-color lithography, which was seen by artists as requiring too much time and labor-intensive technical assistance. Braque became fascinated with the process and through experimentation and collaboration with Mourlot and Henri Deschamps, pushed the capabilities of the medium.

This image of a female face in profile with the artist palette comes out of a moment when Braque was captivated by early Greek and Etruscan styles.

A beautiful poster with really unique subtleties and exquisite blues. Acquired from the Richard L. Press collection, who had a longstanding relationship with Galerie Maeght.
