1958 Press Photo Massive turbine for Browniee Dam's first generating unit

This is an original press photo. Weighing 154 tons, massive turbine for Browniee Dam's first generating unit, dwarfs workmen as it is lowered toward pit deep in project's caverhous powerhouse. Big wheellike turbine, 20 feet in diameter, was installed by traveling gantry crane in operation that required nearly four hours. Idaho Power Co. said Browniee on Snake River will produce first power by September, and four units will be in production by December with initial 360,000 kilowatts of power.Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated 7-27-1958.
