This previously owned vintage tile art by Clarence A. Wells is a beautiful piece that highlights the
artist's talent. The artwork titled “Thunderbird” showcases Canadian Indigenous
culture, specifically the Gitksan (Gitxsan) Tribe. The intricate details and
vibrant colors are sure to catch the eye of any collector or admirer of Native
art.
Clarence Wells is an
acclaimed Canadian postwar & contemporary Pacific Northwest Coast First
Nations artist and carver. Wells has become an internationally renowned artist
and was born in 1950.
This beautiful tribal art solid
wood box with removable lid has a porcelain tile piece inlaid in the lid with a
“Thunderbird” design and is dated March, 1982.
It has been well-preserved over the years and is in very good condition
with no chips or cracks to the tile, but a few scratches in the wooden lid and
one side of the box. See photos for close ups of these scratches. Those scratches
could easily be sanded out and re-finished to make it perfect. Or you could remove the tile and display it
on the wall or on a stand.
