Baader AstroSolar Safety Film 5.0 is made for the construction of high-quality objective-filters for observing and photographing the sun. The film reduces the intensity of sunlight by 99.999% and allows for high magnification views with any long-range optics without reducing sharpness or contrast of the solar surface. High density coatings on both sides of the film ensure a highly uniform filtering capacity, resulting in an extremely contrasty solar image with neutral density characteristics showing the sun in neutral white without false blue or orange colour. Sharpness and contrast largely exceeds the quality of most commercial glass filters.

About White Light
Observing and photographing the sun in white light reveals the sun's visible surface or 'Photosphere' and allows a wide range of wavelengths across the visible spectrum providing excellent visibility of solar features. Other films and most glass filters produce a false, blurry, bluish or reddish solar image and this cuts off part of the visible spectrum making features harder to see, for example with an orange sun it is much harder to see faculae regions which are visible predominantly in the blue wing of the spectrum.

What can be observed/photographed?
With this film you will be able to see many types of solar activity including sunspots, limb darkening, faculae and granulation. The film will also show solar eclipses and solar transits such as planes, birds or even the International Space Station. You can also get creative with photos of clouds passing the sun or of silhouettes such as birds and branches for example. It is also possible to colour the images in post editing, allowing you to create a yellow or orange looking sun, see last photo (requires image editing software).
