Antique Ercol Sideboard
Stunning Carvings

This is a beautiful heavy, solid sideboard featuring classic 1920's design for that period. It has some beautiful carved details to the drawer fronts, cupboard doors and shaped raised back plate .   The sideboard is made from solid wood, which has a nice patina coming through the light layer of dark paint. I had no choice but to paint this as it had previously been painted by a prior owner. I have not done anything other than sympathetically rub it back, and apply a light coat of paint to make it more contemporary.  It ha some lovely streaks and all of the manufacturing wooden pegs are clearly visible on the top and the sides.  It could possibly do with being restained as it is streaked, see photographs, but I like it as it is. Unsure of wood, but it is likely to have been a wood local to High Wycombe Ash, Elm,Oak or walnut which were all popular woods for furniture making during this period in history.  Likely to have been made sometime soon after 1920.  The drawers both slide nicely, although they are not loose and depending on humidity they could tighten,  and the doors open with a good tug but stay firmly closed when pushed to.  The knobs to the drawers are all original, as are all of the fixtures and fittings like the cutlery tray divider,  but these have been lined with a wallpaper to finish it off nicely for the new owner. The carved back plate on the sideboard top has lovely shaping to it, a beautiful piece of furnitue lovingly made by craftsmen of yesteryear.   This stands on sturdy legs  which are simply a continuation of the frame design, please view photographs as they do add to the description. No locks so no keys.   Any questions please ask.
