Scarce Early Die State Walker!

1941-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar

NGC MS65

Beautiful original golden brilliance. The crisp features and original satin finish of a fresh die are seldom encountered on Walkers, as the dies were overused, and statistically, most coins are late die state, with frosted, wavy features. LDS coins have booming luster, but they lack the crisp and precise engraving of a new die. In fact, this EDS has doubling visible on the upper ends of PLURIBUS that would certainly have vanished the minute the frost began to appear, and might explain why it has gone unreported. Interesting lathe lines are visible toward the rims, as seen on many EDS coins of this period.
