Ultraman (Japanese: ウルトラマン, Hepburn: Urutoraman)[a] is a Japanese tokusatsu science fiction television series created by Eiji Tsuburaya. It is a follow-up to Ultra Q, though not technically a sequel or spin-off. Eiji Tsuburaya's production company, Tsuburaya Productions, produced 39 episodes (40, counting the pre-premiere special) that aired on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) and its affiliate stations from July 17, 1966, to April 9, 1967. Its premiere topped the average rating set by Ultra Q and kept climbing each week, marking the show as a success.

Although Ultraman is the first series to feature an Ultraman character, it is the second installment in the Ultra Series, following Ultra Q. This is symbolised by the Japanese show opening with the Ultra Q logo exploding into the Ultraman logo. Ultraman and its titular hero became a major pop culture phenomenon in Japan, generating dozens of sequels, spin-offs, imitations, parodies and tributes. Ultraman went on to generate $7.4 billion in merchandising revenue from 1966 to 1987 in Japan equivalent to more than $18 billion adjusted for inflation) and become the world's third top-selling licensed character by the 1980s, largely due to his popularity in Asia.

Ultraseven (ウルトラセブン Urutorasebun) is the third entry of the Ultraman Series, created by Tsuburaya Productions. Contrasting Ultraman before it with its various monsters, Ultraseven expands much more on the concepts of alien invasions and militarism. Ultraseven was originally conceived to be a separate entry to Ultraman until Return of Ultraman later retconned the two continuities into one.

Guyros (ガイロス Gairosu) was a Kaiju that appeared in the TV series Ultraseven episode 42.
Subtitle: "Octopus Monster" (蛸怪獣 Tako Kaijū)

Ultraseven

One day, two large ships blew up and were set aflame. After the UG tried to find an eyewitness that saw what happened, their luck ran short. However, some time later, the monster Guyros made himself known as he started attacking another large ship. The Ultra Guard arrived on the scene quickly and managed to kill Guyros by attacking him from the air and water. Little did anyone suspect that Guyros was only a pawn in the Nonmalt's plan. Guyros was revived by the Alien Nonmalt later that day after they started to attack a local harbor town with a very powerful submarine. Dan Moroboshi turned into Ultraseven and intercepted Guyros, but the creature proved to be a formidable adversary until the hero used the environment against him. Ultraseven used his Eye Slugger to slice off each of Guyros's tentacles after each dive, slowly making him incapable of fighting. Shortly into battle, Guyros became tired out and simply died.

Guyros's design is based off of the silver prize winner of a contest to submit alien designs for Ultraseven, Alien Guyros (ガイロス星人 Gairosu Seijin). However, the suckers were originally meant to be eyeballs. Tepeto was the gold prize winner of the contest.

There was also Alien Elidus who shared concept with Guyros.
In the middle-to-late 1990s, footage of Guyros was used for the TNT, TBS and Cartoon Network show Cartoon Planet. Guyros footage was used to depict an alien in the recurring sketch entitled 'Messages from Outer Space' that would feature other Ultraseven Kaiju broadcasting to Space Ghost, Zorak and Brak on Cartoon Planet. In his featured message, he was called Barnacle Boy (with no relation to the SpongeBob SquarePants character), broadcasting from Denada 7 the Underwater City. He reappeared in another recurring sketch called 'Vacation Spots of the Universe', concerning a location advertised as Mr. Beak's Underwater Thrill Park.

The roars of Guyros are reused roars from the Daiei monster, Gyaos.

Guyros's roar would later be used for the Return of Ultraman kaiju, Arstron.

In the TNT dub, Guyros is referred to as a robot.

Guyros was one of the monsters that made up Belyudra's right arm.
