The Krugerrand was the first modern gold bullion coin to be issued by any country, and it was
instantly sought after by collectors all over the world. When other countries saw the
international demand created by the Krugerrand, many issued gold coins of their own,
including the U.S. Gold Eagle and Canadian Gold Maple Leaf issues. First struck in 1967, the
Krugerrand design was based on historic coins of South Africa, and the design has remained
unchanged for over three decades.
However, these Krugerrands are special, as not only were they the VERY LAST Krugerrands
ever produced on the Oom Paul press, but they carry a special, one-of-a-kind Oom Paul privy
mark to celebrate the historic occasion.
Every Oom Paul Krugerrand will feature a one of kind privy mark above the springbok. This
privy contains a special and amazing image of the press itself, along with the numbers 18 on
the left of the press and 92 on the right of the press to signify the first year the Oom Paul press
began striking coins- 133 years ago! The privy is so special the engravers at the South African
Mint have hand engraved it into the dye rather than laser engraving, causing the privy to stand
out and POP as you look at it unlike almost any privy you have ever previously seen.
