The Diary of Cyrus B. Comstock

Very good hardcover with no dust jacket, bound in blue cloth with gilt titles, underlining to one page (in the foreword; vi), else an excellent copy!

Description
Cyrus Ballou Comstock died May 29, 1910, just one day shy of Memorial Day. He had maintained a diary throughout his life. Many of his papers became mixed with those of his sister, Ellen, who had married a prominent Wisconsin State senator who adopted her last name. Ellen was the mother of the distinguished physician Dr. Elizabeth Comstock. The general's wife, Elizabeth Blair Comstock, died in childbirth on August 6, 1872 in Detroit, Michigan. A portion of the diary was donated by the family to the Library of Congress in 1910. Consequently, the manuscript binders lay scattered and untouched for many years.
