Eddystone ‘All World Two’ AW-2 Vintage Shortwave Radio Receiver - READ

This appears to be a home-constructed Eddystone ‘All World Two’ (AW-2) Shortwave radio receiver dating from the late 1930s. This model of radio is a historically important radio having been used during the first stages of WW2 for intercepting German coded signals (but you probably already know this) and original models and their components are scarce.

When compared to images of Eddystone AW-2 radios online it is clear that this has some additional components such as an antenna trimmer and some other electronic components. However, the main components from the AW-2 form the base of this receiver.

When these radios were originally sold, they were sold either in kit form for the buyer to build, or they were available ready-built. The buyer had the option to buy just the main components and I think the builder of this decided to build their own chassis instead of buying one from the manufacturer.

It is supplied with only one coil (shown fitted).

It has two vacuum tubes fitted to it, but neither are correct and should probably be replaced with the correct tubes. It is known that the P2 tube does not work. Details of the correct vacuum tubes can be found online.

In addition to the radio itself, it comes with an external power supply (based on 240V) which would have been constructed later. I expect the capacitor in the power supply will have to be replaced.

I have NOT attempted to apply power this radio because I don’t want to risk damaging the internal components. The buyer will have to check the values of all of the internal components before applying power.
