Here is a 1953 Rivoli mandolin (sn. 65982). Right now in Felix Wiedler's Unofficial New York Epiphone Registry database, there are only 27 Rivoli listed. That is amazingly few, given that the Rivoli was listed in every Epiphone catalog from 1932-1954! Btw, if you like pre-Gibson Epiphones, I cannot recommend Felix's website highly enough! As you can see in the pictures, this instrument is still in very good shape! The binding shrinkage on this one is much less than on my Adelphi (seen in another of my auctions). The Rivoli model features all solid carved woods: spruce top, with walnut back & sides. Not everybody has had one of these in their hands, so a little more info: this mandolin has a 1 1/4" nut; the scale length is 14"; and the lower bout width is 10 1/4". This Rivoli also includes it's equally nice Lifton OHSC (with key!). If I were to keep this mandolin, I think I'd get it a new nut (or, at least slot the existing nut a little deeper). I am listing a couple other vintage Epiphone instruments, so be sure to check my other listings.
