Beautiful edition of 1691 of this famosuw ork of military strategy by the ancient greek writer Polieno.

Greek text with italian tarnslation by Pancratius Maasvicl (1658-1729).

Notes in latin by Isaac Casaubon (1559-1614).

The work, dedicated to the two emperors Marco Aurelio and Lucio Verdescribes different military strategies of the most important greek and roman generals and governors and not, as also illustrious roman people.

As indicated in the first title page work given as a prize for the good rendering of the student  "Johanni Van Herverden" in the school year 1730 (date corrected by hand).

Very fine engraved frontspice by Joseph Mulder (1659-1660/1737).

In very good conditions.

Full parchment coeval cover with gilted title and decorations in the spine and plates in good general conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Binding in good conditions but a crack in the frontspice. Pages in good conditions with occasional foxing. In 8. Dim. 20,5x13 cm. Pp. (14)+832+(40). Peso Kg. 0,720.

Bella edizione del 1691 di questa celebre opera di strategia militare dello scrittore greco antico Polieno.

Testo greco con a fronte traduzione latina a cura di Pancratius Maasvicl (1658-1729).

Note in in latino a cura di Isaac Casaubon (1559-1614).

L'opera, dedicata ai due Imperatori Marco Aurelio e Lucio Vero entrambi impegnati nella guerra Romano Partiana del 161-166 descrive numerosi stratagemmi militari dei più importanti generali e governatori greci e romani e no, illustri personaggi romani.

Come indicato al primo frontespizio opera concessa in premio allo studente "Johanni Van Herverden" per l'ottimo rendimento scolastico nell'anno scolastico 1730 (data corretta a mano).

Incisione calcografica dello stemma dei Paesi Bassi.

Finissima antiporta figurata incisa da Joseph Mulder (1659-1660/1737).

In ottime condizioni.

Copertina in piena pergamena coeva con titolo e ricche decorazioni in oro al dorso e piatti in buone condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni ma rottura in antiporta. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con rare fioriture.  In 8. Dim. 20,5x13 cm. Pp. (14)+832+(40). Peso Kg. 0,720.
