This is a set of three cotton wall hangings, 14” high by 6” wide apiece, depicting three expressions of a Hawaiian girl/woman. Her eyes say it all.

Her pareo/dress reminds me of a fabric made famous by Hilo Hattie—white hibiscus flowers on a red background. She wears a white floral crown, or lei po’o.

I think these may be silkscreens on cotton. They are extremely lightweight. They are not stitched. Everything is hand-joined, with the help of some glue for the seams around the sticks used at top and bottom. The sticks look like they were made from bamboo skewers. The hangers are made of a yarn rope. The long edges are purposely frayed.

The set has a graphic quality that is simple and effective. For all I know, this could have been a class project, but the artistry is there.

Unique and cool!
