The Coat that Started it all.

In December 1992, J Peterman opened it's first store in Lexington, Ky.
This is where we purchased this coat.

It's never been worn, it is new with tags. My husband had to have one, then never wore it.

Size XL.  Coat is 48" from the shoulder without bottom flap that can be unsnapped and adds another 8" to the length (see picture). Has an inside zipper pocket, inside waist drawstring.  Snap sleeve with two snaps for sizing. Outside pockets, the square pocket and a deep side pocket.  Low back has snaps that can be left snapped or unsnapped for ease of movement.

A horseman’s duster John Peterman bought in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, brought to New York City in 1986, as Peterman and his longtime friend and collaborator Don Staley were plotting their next business move. The coat was a wonder to behold: “It was cut very long, all the way to the floor, similar to the ones in the 1880s,” wrote Peterman in Peterman Rides Again: Adventures Continue with the Real “J. Peterman” Through Life & the Catalog Business, his 2000 autobiography.

The J. Peterman Duster Ad in catalog

Classic horseman’s duster protects you, your rump, your saddle and your legs down to the ankles.

Because it’s cut very long to do the job, it’s unintentionally very flattering. With or without a horse.

Although I live in horse country, I wear this coat for other reasons. Because they don’t make Duesenbergs anymore.
