New - Dragon Armor - King Tiger (Porsche Turret)

Unit - sPzAbt 503 (503rd Heavy Panzer) - this Abteilung was originally planned for North Africa but was sent instead to the Eastern Front. It fought in southern Russia, taking part in the Don Campaign and the withdrawal from Stalingrad. It fought at Kursk and was later attached to Schwere Panzer-Regiment Bake in August 1943. It fought near Cherkassy and 503 remained assigned to it until April 1944 when it was sent to the West. The 1st Kp. was refitted with 12 Tiger IIs (and 2 Tiger Is) in Ohrdruf while 2. and 3. Kp. received Tiger Is. Later the 3rd Kp. received 14 Tiger IIs which made it the first pure Tiger II kompanie.The Abteilung was then re-equipped with 45 new Tiger IIs (Ausf B) in September 1944 based on accounts, given that many of the original Tigers were destroyed by bombing attacks in July 1944. 

The King Tiger was a Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf B (Tiger II or Sd.Kfz.182) 

Campaign - France 1944 - the regiment fought the Allies in Normandy inflicting and receiving heavy losses (especially from air attack). After Normandy, the 503rd was transferred to the command of the 5th Panzer Army and participated in Operation Goodwind. After refitting in Sennelager, the unit was sent to Hungary in October 1944 where it took part in Operation Panzerfaust to arrest the Hungarian government. It was redesignated Schwere Panzer-Abteilung Feldherrnhalle on 21 December 1944. 

Color and Markings - dark green with dark brown and tan camouflage and markings - #334 in red with white outlines on turret. Interestingly the black cross in orange/white circle was the division insignia for sPzAbt. 506. Most of the Tiger IIs had camouflage that was dark yellow and olive with green and brown spots but some painted their tanks in vertical green-olive and brown stripes as this model illustrates. Extra track armor on turret. 

Rotating turret with gun. Comes with two hitches on bottom packet.

Condition - new with minor wear on cardboard box. Small tear on one end flap.
