Presented today is this gorgeous Jemez Pueblo Story Teller, by Mary Elizabeth Toya (1934-1990), who was instrumental in bringing the Storyteller motif to Jemez Pueblo. Mary Elizabeth was famous for making some of the largest Storytellers ever made, sometimes holding over a hundred babies! In addition to teaching her 2 daughters the art, she has also taught dozens of potters who are working today. This spectacular piece 5 inches tall, and is a Jemez interpretation of a Tesuque Rain God. It dates from the 1960's and represents a very rare depiction of the Tesuque style Rain God. The clay she used always came from a traditional clay bed within the Jemez Pueblo, and she fired her work outdoors, not in a commercial kiln. Buy with complete confidence, for as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason, i will immediately return the full purchase price, along with return shipping.
