An early Mk2 T5 (five-gear) Brompton folding bike in ‘used’ condition.
Everything works and there is no damage. There’s a bit of paint wear commenserate wtih it being 33 years old. The one thing it WILL need is attention to the brakes for no other reason that the brakes on Mk2 Bromptons were TERRIBLE (I’ve owned and ridden a few Bromptons including two Mk2 bikes and the brakes are never great on early bikes). The brake calipers fitted are original single-pivot calipers and it really would benefit from being fitted with some later dual-pivot calipers.
Apart from that it has many new parts (new Schwalbe tyres, new inner tubes, new seatpost, new mudguards, pentaclip etc). I have fitted a modern rear frame catch to it.
Please bear in mind this is a Mk2 bike which has a slightly shorter frame than the current bikes (by about 20mm). It has a factory-fitted dynamo which still works. It has the Brompton-issued handlebar brace to strengthen the handlebars.
It has a very early four-digit serial number (sub-3400 - 33XX) and has the hand-braised chromed rear rack rather than the later cast aluminium version. The rack does have some rust showing through. The rear hub is dated 9/1990, so I expect the bike was assembled in 1991.
For the collectors out there, I will include the original Raleigh Record tyres, original inner tubes, and what I assume is the original saddle (see final two photos).
