Hank Greenberg was a prominent American baseball player, primarily known for his career with the Detroit Tigers during the 1930s and 1940s. Born on January 1, 1911, Greenberg was a powerful first baseman and right-handed batter. He achieved significant success, earning two American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and leading the Tigers to two World Series championships in 1935 and 1945. Greenberg's career was briefly interrupted as he served in the military during World War II, making a return in 1945 and playing a key role in the Tigers' championship that year. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1956, recognizing his impact on the sport and his role as one of the game's great sluggers.

Hank Greenberg's ethnicity, being Jewish, had an impact on his experience in Major League Baseball (MLB) during a time when the league was not as diverse and faced instances of discrimination. Greenberg faced anti-Semitic sentiments and discrimination, but he overcame these challenges to become one of the league's most celebrated players.

Hank Greenberg's legacy extends beyond his on-field accomplishments; he is remembered as a trailblazer who paved the way for future Jewish players and contributed to the gradual diversification of MLB. His impact on breaking down religious and ethnic barriers is recognized as an important part of baseball history.
