Here's a 1 gallon stoneware crock with a number 1 inside a dentate stamp emb on front shoulder...hand thrown on potter's wheel...thick heavy stoneware with gray salt glaze .....8 1/2"tall x 6 1/2"across base....4 spots on top of rim from kiln spacers....it has a hole in bottom & 3 chips on rim (all which are easily repaired); no other damage. After 50 years of digging, I've accumulated a lot of stoneware, pottery, etc and have decided to thin out the herd. I have no idea if this crock jar was made at Alton or some other Illinois pottery?......
