Scarce post incunable of May 1519, variant B, of the epic poem "Argonautica" written by the latin poet Valerio Flacco born in Sezze and dead around 92 (Cfr. EDIT16 web).

The work contains also the fourth book of'"Argonautica" by Apollonio Rodio, used to integrate and finish the narration of "Argonautica" by Valerio Flacco which was interrupted at 8th book.

Latin text with comment in latin and greek of Giovanni Battista Pio (1540 m.).

half leather cover of 19th century with gilted title and decorations in the spine in very good general conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Binding in good conditions. Inside pages are in good conditions with foxing and yellowing in the extremities. Title page and first four pages with lackings and loss of text (between the ruined pages there are some blank pages). Upper edge of pag. CLXV, CLXXXVIII, CLXXXIX has been excessively cut with loss of number of pages. The index has been bound at the beginning of the work instead of the end. Yellowings. In 4. Pregevole edizione del Maggio 1519, variante B, curato dall'umanista bolognese Giovanni Battista Pio (ca 1470-1540)  del poema epico "Argonautica" composto dal poeta latino Valerio Flacco nato a Sezze e morto intorno al 92 (Cfr. EDIT16 web).

L'"editio princeps" di Valerio Flacco fu pubblicata a Bologna nel 1474, ma G.B. Pio trovò nuovi codici e ripubblicò il testo con gli ultimi due canti che mancavano e con l'aggiunta dell'Argonautica di Apollonio Rodio, utilizzata per integrare e condurre a conclusione la narrazione di Valerio Flacco che si interrompeva all'ottavo libro.

In discrete condizioni ma completo.

Copertina ottocentesca in mezza pelle con titolo e decorazioni in oro su tassello al dorso in ottime condizioni generali con lievi usure marginali. Legatura in buone condizioni. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con fioriture e bruniture marginali. Frontespizio e prime quattro carte presentano mancanze con perdita di testo (le pagine rovinate sono state intervallate da fogli bianchi). Eccessiva rifilatura al margine superiore di pag. CLXV, CLXXXVIII, CLXXXIX con perdita dei numeri di pagina. L'indice è stato rilegato all'inizio dell'opera anzichè alla fine. Bruniture. In 4. Dim. 29,5x21,5 cm. Pp. (20)+CLXXXIX+(1).Peso Kg. 1,00
