Mookaite Jasper is found only in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia near Mooka Creek, nowhere else in the
world. The indigenous term ‘Mooka’ means ‘running waters’ and refers to the numerous springs that
feed into this area. Mookaite was formed as the skeletal remains of microscopic protozoa with hard
silica shells were deposited over millenia as sediment in shallow areas of sea beds. As waters
receded , the remains were solidified by the additional silica carried in groundwater, along with
minerals that produce its beautiful rich combinations of red, burgandy, mustard-yellow, orange,
cream, white, brown, mauve and purple.
Mookaite Jasper is described as chert, opalite or chalcedony, or a combination of the three.
As an indigenous ‘mother Earth stone’, it is favoured for it’s healing capacity, and for empowering
one to feel and connect
