This is a copy of the book “down to the ships in the sea” by Harry Grossett. This is a true/genuine 1st edition 1st impression copy published by Hutchinson, London in 1953.

It was reprinted in 1954 by an American publisher J. Lippincott with a completely different dust jacket.

A very collectable book for anyone that is interested in historical diving and diving equipment.

This is a brilliant, easy book to read.  This book is full of adventures, but it is more than a personal adventure story. The author reveals the principals and practice of deep sea diving, and shows how it has developed during his lifetime. Between the wars he played a leading part in the biggest salvage operation in history—raising the German fleet at Scapa Flow.

In my opinion this is one of the best books connected with diving that I have ever read. The original dust jacket has some small loss as you can see from the photos but it still has the original price and is now covered in proper clear plastic covering.

Please note that I will only post this item within the UK.
