Box 29.5 x 27 x 13 cm - Sextant 28.5 x 23 cm - Total weight 3,850 kilos

You are going to purchase a fairly unique piece, in its original box and all its labels of the time, of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique French Line DE GRASSE Liner, ordered by Jean C.E. SIMON.

The De Grasse was a liner built in 1921 for the Transatlantic General Company and commissioned in 1924 on the Le Havre - New York line.

In 1940 it was converted into a troop transport but disarmed in 1940 it served as a floating barracks in Bordeaux for the Germans and then as a base ship for Italian submariners, allied with the Germans.

In 1942 it was returned to Vichy which used it as a school ship.

In 1944 it was partially sunk by the Germans to be bailed out in August 1945. Repaired, modernized it is once again assigned to the Le Havre—New York line.

Beginning in 1953 there will be several foreign companies that will become owners and its name will be changed. After a grounding in 1962 near Cannes it is sold scrapped.

Personalities such as Jackie Kennedy was a passenger in 1949 of the DE GRASS.

The name DE GRASSE was reused by a second liner in 1971.

Sextant for sale dates from first liner (1924-1953 date name changes), I could not determine the exact time Commander SIMON was on board.
