This is a crude early original 1820s Keene or Sandwich glass hand blown hat whimsey open salt or toothpick holder....hand blown in 3 pc mold....rough pontil scar on bottom....folded over rolled brim.....sunburst & geometric hobnail pattern with fluted base using an inkwell mold.....grouped by McKearin as GIII-7 in American Glass, page 254.....2 1/8"tall x 2"across base....clear flint glass....Sparkling attic mint condition with no chips or damage. A shiny clean salt or toothpick with no haze. This comes from my own personal collection, and originally from an old New England collection. These early original hat whimseys are getting harder to find. Here's your chance to get a super nice example for your collection before the prices go up......
