From Strat-O-Matic: Although they were swept 4-0 in the World Series by the dominant New York Yankees, the 1927 season still ranks highly in Pittsburgh Pirates history. The Bucs, who two years earlier earned a World Series championship, logged 94 victories during the regular season to win the NL pennant by a slim game and a half margin over a determined St. Louis Cardinals squad. Five eventual Hall of Fame stars were part of this Pirates team: Lloyd Waner, Paul Waner, Pie Traynor, Kiki Cuyler, plus Joe Cronin (who played in only 12 games). Paul Waner enjoyed an MVP season in only his second year in the league, leading the NL with 131 RBI and a .380 batting average. Starter Paul Kremer’s league-best 2.47 ERA led him to 19 victories.
