You are considering a hardcover book, with DJ;

AFTER THE GUNS FELL SILENT: A POST APPOMATOX NARRATIVE APRIL 1865-MARCH 1866 by A.A. Hoehling; PUBLISHER: Madison Books; a 1990 copyright, 301 Pages.

The author, a historian who has written extensively on 19th- and 20th-century America, recounts the events of the first year following Lee's surrender. Using the formula he successfully employed in such previous books as Vicksburg: 47 Days of Siege  and Thunder at Hampton Roads -that is, interspersing brief narration with lengthy excerpts from contemporary diaries and letters--he depicts Lincoln's assassination, the trial and hanging of the conspirators, the building of the Union Pacific Railway, and the first attempts at reconstructing the South's ravaged cities. .
