This sale is for a custom 3D printed hardtop for the Axial SCX10iii Jeep CJ7. It is printed using ASA filament for superior heat, water, and abrasive resistance over the typical PLA filament that other makers are using in their products. We have designed in pressure tabs that mount the top to the Axial SCX10iii using the factory roll cage, making mounting and removal quick, easy and firm. We find by placing a hand inside of the vehicle and pressing up on the roll cage while pressing down on the top produces a nice solid mount without stressing any of the parts during this process. if you find the fitment to be too tight you can sand one of the interior lobs on the top to widen it slightly to make moutning and removal easier. We have thoroughly tested the ASA material in various rock crawling competitions and have been pleased with it's results. ASA is considerably stronger than the general PLA that you see in some prints today. ASA prints at a considerably higher temperature than PLA. Thus, it has a much higher heat resistance for crawling outside in the sun. ASA will not get soft or warp in direct sunlight like PLA. While PLA may have its place, we feel that it is sub par with the conditions that these items may see, which is why we choose ASA for this product.
Finishing recommendations:
The windows can be cut out using Lexan scissors, razor blade, bandsaw, or other methods of which you prefer. Please use all safety precautions when using sharp objects. Once cut, test fit into the recess to ensure fitment before mounting. We have found that gluing the windows in place using "Glue 'n' Glaze" has produced the best results as it will not fog the plastic like super glue will and dries to a crystal-clear finish. You may also choose to either glue in the rear window or use the supplied hardware to make it a functioning rear opening window. Making the rear opening also allows you easier access for mounting the hard top so you can fit your hand inside to press up on the roll cage while pressing down on the hard top. When mounting the rear window to use the hinges we suggest mounting the hinges to the top with the supplied self tappers then hold the window in place and mark the holes. A basic drill bit or body reamer can be used to make the holes in the rear window for mounting. We also suggest maybe adding tint for that finshed look!
We print the hardtop with a layer height of 0.20 to produce a final product with fine details requiring minimal finishing effort from the buyer for a beautiful finish. We recommend sanding with 120, then 300, followed by one to two coats of automotive level high fill primer. We then suggest lightly sanding it with a 600 grit sandpaper followed by one to two final coats of our desired color. We prefer using automotive grade spray paints from your local auto parts store for the best results. You do not need to sand in order to paint. The level of finish achieved is up to the buyer.
For our advanced buyers, being that this is printed in ASA which is a derivative of ABS, the Acetone smoothing methos may also be utilized. Please research on safety precautions and methods of use before attempting to use this technique as misuse of this technique can permentatly damage the product and is a very dangerous process to preform as Acetone fumes are very harmful and flamable.
