Ask a Question

Yak wool from Manang district in Nepal is used to make this product. On the one hand, this has economic and ecological reasons, as it does not have to be imported. On the other hand, we can keep an eye on animal welfare ourselves in this way. The wool comes from farmers from various settlements in this Himalayan region who are much better at keeping their yaks in a species-appropriate manner. Since they ensure the livelihood of these farmers, it is also very important to them that the animals are healthy. For example, combing out and shearing the shaft, a very time-consuming process, takes place while respecting animal welfare.

The item offered here comes from a small factory in Kathmandu, Nepal. The production is still done by hand and using very old and traditional weaving techniques. This centuries-old handicraft and its heritage should definitely be preserved in today's times with the spread of mechanical production. What is particularly important are the people behind them who produce these beautiful and lovingly made products. All of them, mostly women, are members of the Dalit, the so-called "untouchables" and therefore the socially weakest and most disadvantaged sections of society. In our role, we influence working and production conditions, people's wages and the quality of products.

By purchasing our products, you are directly supporting these women and men, as well as their families, as well as the farmers whose yaks provide the wool for production. Since this is a natural product, there may be slight differences in color and size. The incidence of light and the type of light source can also slightly influence the color results.

Namaste Kids eV and Namaste Kids Nepal is a registered children's aid organization. We founded our Help Shop to reduce our dependence on donations and still be able to finance our projects.

Since we work exclusively on a voluntary basis in Germany, the administrative costs are very low. The sales proceeds flow entirely into our projects. The main focus here is on our two funds: In particular, the fund for the treatment of seriously ill children whose families cannot afford treatment. In addition, our education fund is financed by the Help Shop, which enables children to complete school and receive training. In Nepal, education is an expensive commodity that poor families are often unable to provide their children with for very long. The sale of our products supports and promotes those children who are among the poorest in the developing country of Nepal and who live in very remote and difficult-to-access regions of Nepal.

Care instructions

Yaks naturally live in the open air and in the fresh air and this is also the case with your yak wool shawl or your yak wool blanket. Yak wool also has self-cleaning effects and sufficient ventilation is usually enough, provided there is no heavy contamination. This is the best way for the fine fibers to regenerate.

Important

laundry detergent

Wool detergents or special cashmere detergents are best suited. These are moisturizing and contain no brighteners, bleach or fabric softeners. In this way, the natural protective layer of the cashmere fibers is preserved. In addition to these special care products, a good quality shampoo is also suitable.
