1957 hardcover + 1906 repo

Two histories of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)

Here are two fascinating histories of Canada's national police force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, commonly known as the RCMP or The Mounties.

The Living Legend is a stated First Edition of the RCMP, published in 1957. The  book itself is in Near Fine condition, with a firm binding, tight hinges and sharp corners. It has no ownership signs (save a faint name stamp on the rear endpaper), no writing or underlining and no library marks.

The bright red cloth-covered book has a strong binding, solid textblock,  robust hinges and square corners.

The book's dust jacket has considerable wear at the corners and along the spine, and has modest wear to the extremities -- as you'd expect in a 65-year-old book. We have added a removeable mylar jacket sleeve (Bro-Dart) to provide archival long-term protection for the jacket.

The North-West Mounted Police Corps History is an facsimile reproduction of a 1906 history of the RCMP that details how it was first organized into a national police organization to handle many criminal and civil incidents in its early years. These included maintaining law and order during the settling of the West, the Rebellion of 1885, and the Sitting Bull incident.

The book also includes 88 pages of vintage advertisements that appeared in the original publication 117 years ago. This facsimile reprint was published in 1973 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the predecessor of the RCMP.

It is bound as a hardcover book that measures 8 1/2 by 11 inches with 160 pages of text and photos and 88 pages of original ads for a variety of companies.

Textblock is in near Fine condition and the binding is sturdy. There are no signs of previous ownership: no signatures, no bent corners or other marks to the pages. There are some scratches on the printed covers that have exposed the underlying cardboard.

We invite you to check out our other vintage listings and would be happy to combine shipping at little or no additional cost.
