This is a beautifully cast gilt metal oil lamp which has been converted to electricity & recently professionally rewired, probably French c.1890.

The acid etched glass font is decorated with a design of flowers and trailing vines and is in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. It is fitted with a brass Evered patent safety lock collar, but our research suggests that the lamp itself is unlikely to be by Evered and Company as their bases were generally made of brass rather than gilt metal. The fluted column projects above an elaborately modelled triangular base with lion's paw feet.

The first and last photographs show it paired with a 30cm (base diameter) coolie shade which we think works well with this lamp. As the completed lamp is tall and narrow it would look handsome on a hall table, a console table or a narrow side table where the fine quality fittings can be fully appreciated.

Dimensions: Height to shade ring - 59 cm (23 in)
Diameter of glass font - 15 cm (6 in)
Foot to foot width - 21 cm (8 1/4 in).

Condition: It is in excellent condition with the only flaw being a missing tip to one of the leaves which form a collar at the top of the column (see close-up photograph) and is difficult to spot.
