Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware)

Any immediate cancellation after purchase made is subject to 20% restocking fee to cover non-refundable purchase transaction fees posted by eBay among other things. Our listings are high ticketed items which accompanies careful attention to details, ZERO Defect protocol, packaged very well  and shipped fully insured so as to eliminate any potential hassle like fiduciary, time and effort resource loses for both of us. This is why we do not accept return nor exchanges posted on our listing. This overrides eBay money back guarantee for what ever reason as a clear fine print you must consider prior to purchase.

We have been in the Sony Service and Restoration business for over 35 years and best at what we do (or dare you to find somebody better). We have seen pretty much every tricks from tens of thousands of customers we have done business with for over 3 decades and as a result have been very protective to any types of loses and hassle against the few careless, fickle minded and trickster buyers we try to avoid. Every merchandise are very well tested, protected against swaps, tamper resistant with internal identification, sealed and photos of serial numbers taken for record filing on every transaction fulfilled with no exceptions. This is how meticulous we are and how we operate with integrity. We manage to stay in business were the majority of our competition has already folded because of it. If this is not acceptable to you, please heed our advise and simply seek other sellers elsewhere, spare us both the hassle.

***ZERO DEFECT POLICY - A high touch is provided without exception with every device. A complete functional aging test (4 hrs.) with a KNOWN GOOD MEDIA TAPE after restoration and THEN AGAIN prior to packaging or we WONT SHIP to avoid any kind of shuttle HASSLE to all customers who value their time and sanity & do not  like taking chances (we are not after volume sale but elevated buyer's experience). If you ever experience any issue with the device - please do not jump the gun because it could only be attributed to your bad media (more prevalent now a days than ever) or most likely from freight / package being banged around during transit by the courier. The cosmetic housing may survive harsh handling but the delicate mechanism & electronic circuit boards may not.  This is the special attention all our buyer gets. This is also fair warning against exploiters and dishonest people who only wanted to use our devices then fabricate “Defective/Not As Described” to exploit eBay Money Back Guarantee all at our cost – we have seen a few of them doing this on eBay for 24 years and counting. Please move on and find another victim of your ploy. Let it be a CAVEAT.

We do the best we can to protect, package and attached a highly visible FRAGILITY declaration label on each and every device but unfortunately it can never be made indestructible. We learned this from over 20 years experience restoring, selling & shipping here on eBay (as these electro-mechanical devices & circuit boards are very fragile and can break at its components mere weight – if not handled with care like we do). Please let it be cleared and understood that freight damage is BEYOND our CONTROL & RESPONSIBILITY once it leaves our domain. We’ve been aware of 4X more ship damages since the pandemic and online shopping became mainstream from couriers like UPS, FedEx and worse USPS and because of this we are requiring full insurance coverage in the shipping cost. Once you receive the package, hold your excitement and take photos of the packaging before opening it, especially area of the box that shows trauma / impact, internal content BEFORE UNWRAPPING THE DEVICE and any evident damage. We strategically package the device so well that cosmetic housing will survive damage but the fragile internals may not from mishandling, therefore do not take a chance but take 7-10 pictures (better safe than sorry later).

UPS / FedEx / USPS Protocol per se:

· Photo 1: A photo of the damaged item.
· Photo 2: A photo showing the damaged merchandise, inside the original box, with all of the original cushioning (picture should show the placement of the merchandise and packaging inside the box).
· Photo 3: A photo of the packaging material used inside the box (e.g. bubble wrap, Styrofoam peanuts, cardboard dividers, etc.).
· Photo 4: A close-up photo of the shipping label with tracking number (please zoom in enough to read the tracking number which usually begins with 1Z).
· Photo 5: A close-up photo of the box manufacturer’s certificate (BMC), if available. The BMC is a round stamp that details either the bursting strength of the box or the edge crush rating of the box. The BMC is generally found on a bottom flap on the outside of a corrugated cardboard box.
· Photo 6: Two photos displaying all 6 sides of the package (1 photo should display the top and 2 sides, the 2nd photo should display the bottom and the opposite sides).
· Photo7: Dimensions of the box including the package height, length, and width provided in the body of the email.

Note: All photos must be in jpeg or bitmap format.

Do not throw away any of the original packaging and notify us immediately so I can help facilitate filing insurance damage claim on your behalf as per courier protocol to shipper. Please let it be clear that our 90 Days Courtesy Warranty does not cover ship damage but freight insurance so do not hold my company responsible, blame, throw feat or alienate us as we try to help and guide you thru the process (this is a hassle for both of us for no fault of us but couriers not heeding proper handling of Fragile packages despite the declaration). Please cooperate with us and follow our instructions without giving us a hard time as we go thru courier’s damage claim processing and AVOID POSSIBLE DENIABILTY for your own sake. From experience, insurance will go tooth & nail and find the most petty excuse not to pay. If this is not acceptable to you, please seek other eBay sellers. It’s a fair warning because as we do not want any types of hassle. Opening eBay issue resolution is an antagonistic approach to ask for our help thru strangulation of funds our business needs so contact us directly first for any types of issue.

ISSUES YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF ABOUT Media Tapes (before you purchase):

Media Tape issues are more prevalent now a days than not. We are well aware being in the service business for over 35 years and these get worse thru the years, so part of our service process is to maintain good sets of quality controlled media tapes in testing phase to ensure every device is perfect before it gets shipped out.

The following are the top most significant factors affecting Media Tapes deterioration (all formats Beta, VHS, 8mm, MiniDV, microMV):

1)       Age of Media Tapes – magnetic particles erosion starting from ribbon edges are the first to go (much like the end to end tip of a shoe lace). On Beta/VHS Linear audio & tracking residing in these area are affected from weaken to complete loss resulting to video mute or blue/black TV screen.

2)       Wear and stretching of tape ribbons – every playback wears and stretches the media tapes as it passes thru the video heads with some degree of friction (tapes are suppose to travel thru these path in silky smooth fashion and keep friction at the minimum but this may not be the case on non-maintained devices). These gets worse until the device reel tension is adjusted & tape path cleaned thru proper maintenance. Unfortunately most independent servicers dont do this due to lack of proper tools.

3)       Recording devices as they age also develops issues in #1) electronics, #2) wearing mechanism which translates into overall poor recordings. For example - a mechanical wear skew the overall angle of recording stripes along the tape ribbon. It is common that the recordings made will playback with no to little issue with the same recording device since recording stripes matches but most likely way off already from industry standard tolerance. This type of wear tolerance has been accounted for from the very beginning in the design of the technology with the inclusion of manual tracking control so can be adjusted at some degree of tolerance to compensate for variance of different recording devices and if beyond correction is a clear indication the device must be serviced and adjusted.

4)       Contaminations - resulting into snowy to no video & mech jam (Dust, loose magnetite particles from erosion, grease, soda splash & worse mold). We professionally clean every devices internally. However, nothing can stop it from getting contaminated again when a bad tape is loaded and made contact to the device’s internals. Contamination is instantaneous. Wet alcohol-base cleaning tape may help all depends on severity (soda/sugar base are very bad news)

It’s our common practice to restore the device to its near - like new condition performance wise at dead center of industry standard tolerance the best we can but unfortunately, the typical media issues - we can only explain for your awareness but beyond our capability to solve as professional servicer. They are not an integral part of any device we restore, therefore – they are what they are.

To explain the concept of "Full Restoration" does NOT mean making the device to "New Condition" because this is simply impossible to achieve due to the following factors of:

  • Aging
  • Wear and Tear
  • Parts Availability
Full Restoration accounts for presence of wear & tear, aging, patina and all encompassing word "Entropy". Simply put making it serve its fundamental purpose and be useful again.

Why 8mm / Hi8 / Digital 8 / Beta / VHS / MiniDV / MicroMV Tape format?
The Media cassette known as analog VHS, Betamax Video8, Hi8 and Digital8 recording format has been around since 1975. For 50 years it has been a compact, rugged and reliable media for capturing our precious memories. Now a days I'm sure these captured memories could not be more valuable and priceless to everyone. However, the working devices to playback these time capsules are dwindling in numbers and nolonger made due to the high cost of manufacturing. If you happen to find them, it is not unusual they accompany many issues primarily due to age and repair service availability despite this format is designed to outlast many generations way passed our lifetime.

This is where my many years of knowledge, skills and experiences acquired as former Sony Technical Employee for 7 years (since 1988 before going independent), Awarded and Recognized by SONY Corporation of America Ranking 3rd of SONY's Top 24 Most Wanted (1990 - SONY's Finest Technical Specialist) in the nation becomes useful. If you are only shopping around for the cheapest price, ambivilent, unsure, uncertain about what you want or have a habit of returning an item purchased for what ever reason - I beg you to please do yourself a favor, save us both the time/trouble/financial losses and find yourself another seller to play with. Questions about Service, Repairs and Literatures
If you are looking for any SONY User's Guide / Service Manual / Good Parts for a SONY Mavica, CyberShot, 8mm, Hi-8, Digital 8, MiniDV Handycam or Camcorder - Just contact me to see if I can help you.

I have been receiving enumerable inquiries about camcorder and 8mm player repairs from many eBayers and my hands are getting tired typing the same answer over and over, so I decided to incorporate it here. The simple answer is YES. Our company is one of the remaining few which service the 8mm format that has been around for 24 years and is reputable in the field for DOING IT RIGHT (Academically learned, factory trained and certified contrary to many so called screw driver technicians who do not have the proper tools, resource, manufacturer's training, certifications, sound technical trouble shooting methods and experiences compared to many who gained experiences by tinkering at customer's expense leaving their devices worsed than before if they cannot fix them).

The following are feedback excerpts from few eBayers we had repairs done

  • "Received camcorder today. Works great. Your turn around time was very quick and the price was less than half of what sony wanted for the same repair. Keep up the good work!" - G.Palmer (IL)
  • "I received my camcorder today, it looks great and works great, thank you for running an honest internet business" - Hugh Jester (TX)
  • "Thanks much for the fast service. It works good as new. I'll spread the word about your service." - Jeff Schild (SD)
  • "My camcorder works as good as the first time I bought it!" - Shane Mackin (CT)
  • "I received the Sony TR81 fully repaired today. It looks brand new." - Atty. Pat Gordon (TX)
