1950 Gibson ES-175 Sunburst Jazz Archtop Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case

This great 2 owner guitar guitar came in my store today and I just had to have it. This beauty was purchased new in Ojai, Califonia by a  Mr. James Hollis, who was a country musician and ealry member of the California Old Time Fiddlers Asscoaition, District 8.  Jim moved to Ventura, Ca. after serving in the Navy in WWII , then spent his career serving as a firefighter and working in the California olifields. After Jim retired in 1990, he moved back to his home town of Shawnee, Oklahoma and continued to play music until his passing in 2013. Hi daughter Leah then sold the guitar to Mr. Doug Nelson who cared for it lovingly until now. There are 3 photos of Mr. Hollis with his guitar and one of Mr. Nelson in the photo section of this ad. This great guitar is now avalable to go to it’s next home.

This guitar is the cutaway version with one P-90 pickup. It is in the original case and is all original except for the following changes ----- :  The tuners on the guitar have been replaced with gold Grover tuners, a new bridge was added and of course we replaced the strings and did a setup on it. It really didn’t need much of a setup because it was in great shape when we got it, but it did have one pot that was a little scratchy , so we cleaned everything up and put a new set of strings on it.

The guitar does still have the original bridge with it, in the old original case, and we even have the box and the paperwork from the replacment bridge.

When we got it the case had a missing pin in one hinge. We are trying to find a replacement pin so that may be fixed when you get the guitar. The case has some wear, especially on one end, but it is an old original Gibson case that came with the guitar and it is still very serviceable.

The serial number is A-6317 . Finish is nice and is all original. It has some checking as is to be expected from a 74 year old guitar. The frets are in good shape and appear to be the original frets. This is a wonderful old guitar that is ready to play or to make a wonderful showpiece in any collection.  It is a very cool piece.

Thanks for looking .

PS – here is a description on it that was generated by ChatGPT.  These aren’t my words but I thought I would add them to the listing for flavor:
