Coin History

1955 LINCOLN 1C
The first major type in the Lincoln Cent series is the Wheat Ears Reverse of 1909-1958.  This portion of the series includes some of the most readily recognizable and popular 20th century United States coins, namely the 1909-S V.D.B., 1943 Copper and 1955 Doubled Die.  All issues of this type enjoy a strong following among numismatic buyers; such is the popularity of the Lincoln Cent in today's rare coin market.  While many of the Philadelphia Mint and later-date deliveries are easy enough to obtain through the MS-65 RD grade level, all issues of this type are rare in the finest Mint State grades.  This is one series that has proved particularly popular among collectors competing for high rankings on the PCGS Set Registry, with the result that conditionally rare examples frequently command very strong premiums among buyers.
