This antique letter from 1888 features the letterhead of Petty Family Hotel in Sydney, Australia. The letter is a fascinating piece of history, and it was found amongst a cache of correspondence related to the sheep business.


While no recipient is noted, we believe it may have been sent to W. G. Markham, was heavily involved in the exportation of merinos to Australia. He convinced Australian wool growers that introducing American merinos into the Australia flock would increase their weight, and this was very successful. This letter was found amongst a cache (not included in this listing) of communications to him.
