On Sunday, June 21, 1908, the Women’s Social and Political Union, the militant wing of the suffrage or suffragette movement in England, held a rally at Hyde Park. This was the largest political rally of any sort ever held in the U. K. at the time with a crowd estimated between 300,000 and 500,000 in attendance. Organized by Emmeline and Frederick Pethick-Lawrence, participants were urged to show “the colors,” the official colors of the WSPU of purple, green, and white. This postcard, issued by Sandle Brothers, is in very good, unposted condition, with no tears or stains. It shows Christabel Pankhurst, daughter of the famous WSPU founder, Emmeline Pankhurst, along with Emmeline Pethick Lawrence.
