A blast furnace in a steel mill is a large structure used for smelting iron ore into molten iron, which is then further processed to produce steel. The process begins with the loading of raw materials such as iron ore, coke (a form of coal), and limestone into the furnace from the top.

Inside the blast furnace, intense heat generated by burning coke melts the iron ore, allowing the iron to separate from impurities and form a molten pool at the bottom of the furnace. The limestone acts as a flux, combining with impurities to form a slag that floats on top of the molten iron and can be easily removed.

The molten iron is then tapped from the bottom of the furnace and either cast into molds to form pig iron, or further processed in steelmaking furnaces to produce steel of varying grades and compositions. Blast furnaces are a critical component of integrated steel mills, where they play a central role in the production of steel from raw materials.

"This item is a stereoview, an early form of 3D photography also known as a stereograph or stereoscope card. Created using a specialized stereoscopic camera equipped with two lenses mimicking the perspective of our left and right eyes, these images consist of two nearly identical pictures mounted side by side. Typically affixed to cardstock, either as glued-on photographs or lithographic prints, they could be viewed in three dimensions when observed through a device such as a stereoscope, stereopticon, or televiewer."
