VINTAGE IRON 1972 HUSQVARNA 450 WR CROSS COUNTRY RACER RESTORED

This 1972 Husqvarna 450 WR Cross Country's was restored and rebuilt 10 years ago. Out fitted with the classic orange fuel tank with chrome knee panels over a silver single-downtube frame, and power is provided by a rebuilt 456cc two-stroke single paired with a wide-ratio five-speed manual transmission. Other equipment includes alloy fenders and rims, a Bing concentric carburetor , a high-mount expansion chamber, a black vinyl saddle, and Girling shocks, with shifting on the left side and a chain drive on the right.

The 2.5-gallon aluminum fuel tank is finished in orange with chrome sections where the rider’s knees make contact. The single-downtube chromoly steel frame and lower fork legs have been refinished in silver, and other features include polished alloy fenders, a replacement factory seat, plastic number plates, and a side stand. The air-cleaner box is adorned with a decal honoring factory rider Bengt Åberg, who won 500cc-class world motocross championships aboard the marque in 1969 and 1970.

High-shouldered alloy rims measuring 21″ up front and 18″ at the rear are laced to hubs with expanding drum brakes and mounted with Michelin Cross Competition M12 knobby tires. Suspension is handled by a two-way oil-dampened telescopic front fork and a rear swing arm with Girling coil-over shocks featuring chrome shrouds and black springs.
The cross-braced handlebar is finished in silver and equipped with a Magura trap-door twist-grip throttle.

The 456cc single came from the factory with a 36mm Bing concentric carburetor. The engine was rated at 46 horsepower when new and was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment. Exhaust gases flow into a high-mounted heat-shielded expansion chamber on the left. After restoration, she was run for about an hour, then parked, all the fluids drained and stored in heated garage past 8 years.

Brakes work, shifts smoothly, has excellent compression, will fire right up with fresh fluids.
