For sale, a stunning original fireplace with a pre-1884 marking on the back. Recovered from a coach house in Cheshire, it is in excellent condition. A few new nuts and bolts have been added that will be darkened with the same polish used on the surround itself.

The only inconsistencies that I can see are beneath the mantle (see photos). They look to be original casting marks and are fairly well hidden.

The surround has been sandblasted to remove old layers of paint and polish, and has been restored using traditional grate polish.

Fireplaces of this age will naturally have some irregularities in the patina. These effects in the patina often contribute to the character of original cast iron fireplaces.

Fireplaces should be installed in your home by a professional.
