(unabashed, self-promotion)...
Your intrepid chip trader here with a deceptively simple question. What's in a chip? ... Well, lots really. Sand for one. The maker for two. The motive for three. Social values for four. Complex ethics for five. Semiconductors, i.e. "computer chips, et.al" have become, good or bad, the ubiquitous building blocks for modern human endeavors and you can learn a lot by studying their use. Think about it. You don't just "use" a semiconductor or more commonly the device it drives; you form a relationship with it and by extension its creator. Increasingly that creator is ever present as technologies are rented not purchased, centralized not distributed, invasive not walled in, ubiquitous not specialized. Love it. Hate it. Worship it or (try to) avoid it. And different people are likely to do any of these given the same opportunity. Technology is always a trade off and its uses, like most things, can be malignant or benign but rarely neutral. While technology is invariably associated with "efficiency" the question is efficiency for whom? While "user" equipment becomes more and more "dumbed down" provider topologies become more complex and far reaching. Tool and master can become confused. Have computers generally simplified people's lives or complicated them? Privacy and surveillance become core issues as generations increasingly trade personal autonomy for convenience. Human augmentation with semiconductors is already here. AI and an "internet of things" usher in all manner of complex ethical questions that far lag the exponent advances made. WWIII may just as well be decided by configurations of semiconductors that make the intelligence possible as by humans with a conscience and a quivering finger. The red button may prove obsolete. Moore's law is still holding and quantum based computing and genetic hard drives are on the horizon. Semiconductors are the underwriters of all these things and yet their capability and consequence are understood or contemplated by relatively few. Outside of tech circles discussed by even fewer. Does society face these challenges or simply accept them? Most would be surprised, even alarmed, at the advances already made where the bleeding edges of technology exceed the human scope of change. Yes, semiconductors are at the heart of it. And that's reason enough to consider, what's in a chip?
Note: We do not end auctions early except in exceptional circumstances. E-source makes every effort to accurately describe in detail every item we sell and in general we do NOT accept returns EXCEPT for the following limited reasons:
* This is an exceptionally rare circumstance (in fact, it's never happened .. but we never say never, ever!). Our entire selling philosophy is centered around thorough research and verification, robust descriptions, and excellent photographs to ensure a safe and hassle-free buying experience. While "not as described" can be subjective we avoid this problem by rigorously inspecting our items and revealing any flaws to prospective buyers. Photos are integral to our listings so we offer plenty from a variety of angles and make sure they're clear, detailed, and large. As the old adage goes, pictures are worth a thousand words, and nowhere is this more applicable than on Ebay. Anything not covered in our thorough written description is likely in the photos, please examine each carefully prior to bidding. If a 'flaw' (subjective term) or other detail is somehow not covered in our written description but is clearly visible in our photos (and vice versa) we consider it properly represented. Please note: a listing means the WHOLE listing. This includes the top Ebay portion and photos but more importantly our custom portion which contains our detailed written description, additional information, and MAY include additional photographs NOT included in the Ebay photo section. This has become especially important as we note Ebay has begun to obfuscate sellers descriptions. That is however not a justifiable excuse .. descriptions are there for your benefiit, please read them! Customers have 3 days after delivery to notify us of a problem otherwise the sale is final. We will ask for pictures and written description. Except for exceptional circumstances outlined in this policy area all items are sold "AS IS" and all SALES ARE FINAL.
Electronics Purchases have NO Warranty. BUYER BEWARE: All electronics, semiconductors, IC's, software, finished goods, board assemblies, electro mechanical, or other related electronics and software sold via Ebay are strictly SOLD AS IS with NO WARRANTY or FITNESS IN REGARDS TO USE, PURPOSE, OR MERCHANTABILITY. Products may be leaded or RoHS and we make no warranties for this information. The onus is on the buyer to fully qualify this information via the manufacturer. Any information we provide is for convenience and we cannot warrant it as it originates with the maufacturers. You purchase these items at your own risk. No buyer's remorse, please.
