Good Evening, What I am listing tonight Is a 5 x 7 color photograph of V-91, B 29, later named "Necessary Evil. Russ Gackenbach navigated this plane as the Hiroshima Scientific Photographic Plane. Russ was the Navigator of Crew B-10,393rd Bomb Squadron,( VH ) 509th Composite Group, assigned to V-88 later named " Up An Atom". Russ participated in both Atomic Missions.

I attended my first 509th Reunion In 1990. I started collecting 509th photographs in the mid 1980's many 509th autographed photographs that you see listed on e-bay were researched and originally discovered and preserved.by me. Because I have been copied by others and the fact that I am an Historian, I feel that It's only fair that I offer autographed photographs from my unique collection at a fair price to collectors. You will find my price very competitive; this Is from the original slide- see scan- see my quality, compare It to the other listings, no printing dots or pixels with my autographed photographs.

The photo has been, handsigned on the photo by Russell Gackenbach, you will be able to see the pen impressions.

This Is a very limited offering at a competitive price. Most autographed 509th plane photos originated from my collection. As with my other listings, you are purchasing from an Historian not someone who buys autographs to sell them at a profit. I researched these photos and crews. I have attended all 509th Reunions 1990 to 2016. Have been Reunion Chairman 2001-2006,2008-17, a total of 16 Reunions.

The Marquardt Crew flew two (2) combat Missions over Japan, each time carrying a 10,000 'Fatman" bomb loaded with high explosive (torpex). This crew Is most famous for accompanying the Enola Gay as The Camera B29 on August 6, 1945 and they flew the Enola Gay on the August 9th Mission as the Kokura Weather plane which was the primary target. The Bomb was not dropped on Kokura because of cloud cover.
