When it comes to rusticated pipes, Castello's Sea Rock in my humble opinion is the finest of all time. Nothing has ever surpassed the craggy look with incredible attention to detail in each piece! And, the older they are, the better like this amazing Oom Paul shape 97 that was carved in the 1960's. It carries the "SK" stamp which I could never figure out what it means though I am familiar with the other size stamps like SC, SS, etc. I assume the SK stamp is also a size however I have seen it on older Castello's with quite a range in how big they were! Anyhow, shape 97 has to be one of Castello's more rare and sought after offerings as they did a very fine rendition of the classic Oom Paul somehow putting profound Italian character into the profile. It shows a touch of forward cant with massively thick walls on a mostly cylindrical bowl with a deep chamber affording plenty of capacity. Transition is pronounced to an almost completely full bent shank that meets the original saddle acrylic stem with fishtail bit and old school faux diamond logo inlaid. Finish is dark and inviting with auburn accents on the high relief rustication that is not only visually appealing but the texture in hand is amazing! Near mint, a special offering from Castello that simply will not disappoint!

Restoration Methods: I have been restoring pipes for 16 years and have taken bits and pieces from many guys whom I consider the best there ever was in the business and built upon it with my own experience and tricks of the trade. Each pipe is first cleaned by removing all cake, making the chamber smooth and round again if necessary, removing all gunk in the shank and stem with alcohol, then exterior cleaning and polishing of the stummel and stem with no oxidation left but at the same time leaving the vulcanite or acrylic and any logos intact. My restorations end with the pipe looking like new and being completely free from previous signs of use. I do not use salt/alcohol treatments in my bowls but rather if the pipe smells of prior tobacco I will put it in my ozone chamber to make neutral. Lastly, many guys ask me "how are your pipes so shiny!!??" I lightly use the fluffy edge of my white diamond buffing wheel to clean and restore stummels which removes all grime and oils while restoring the original factory luster. I then hand buff and finish with a flannel wheel with high quality carnauba applying multiple coats as they do at the factory as well. This results in the pipe looking as new and will keep it's finish with a simple terry cloth hand buffing at home. Enjoy!
