This is a very different album for Neil Young. While a few of the songs are in a country of rock sound, most of the record has a techno sound, using a vocoder on vocals, drum machines, synths, and lyrics dealing with computer technology or control. Young has explained that it came about as a result of his work to try and find a better way for his son, who has Cerebral Palsy, to communicate. It was the second, but not the last, of his albums on Geffen Records that eventually led Geffen to sue Young for not making "Neil Young" records as per his contract.
There are some good songs here, both techno driven and more traditional, including Crazy Horse and Nils Lofgren on instruments. "Like An Inca" is a very good rocker reminiscent of tracks on "Zuma". Also good are electronic driven songs "Computer Age", "Sample and Hold", a song about computer dating, and "Transformer Man" He also re-does "Mister Soul" in that format.
There is a mistake on the track listing only found on the initial pressing. A song entitled "IF You Got Love" is listed as the second track on side one and lyrics are included on the lyric sheet, but the song was removed at the last minute. So this is a bit of a collector's item.
