Up for Auction is a GREAT c1880 VICTORIAN GOLD & SILVER SERPENT SNAKE TURQUOISE RUBY GARNET NECKLACE. Part of a fine collection of Estate Jewelry listed this week. Be sure to check our other auctions and save greatly with combined shipping.

This is one of our personal favourites from the collection. The necklace has a very unique design with a snake or serpent figural pendant. The pendant is also jewelled with turquoise and ruby garnet cabochon. The necklace links are graduated starting from the one side of the pendant and get smaller to the opposite side where the clasp joins the other side of the pendant. The links are smooth with a reticulated snakeskin design.The serpents mouth has a small ring that could hold an additional pendant if desired. The necklace shows signs of being handmade and we believe the necklace would date to the Victorian era.

We had the necklace brought into our jewelry to verify the materials. They have verified the necklace itself tests 18k solid gold. The serpent pendant tests a very strong 14k gold and in their opinion is likely 15k. The ruby and turquoise cabochon stone mounts are mounted in sterling as seen. This would explain why the necklace is not hallmarked seeing it is constructed of different gold and silver materials such examples were commonly not marked. This fabulous and very unique example is being offered Without Reserve!

Condition: Estate-fresh, minor imperfections consistent with antique age including what appears to be a small early repair to the snake pendant's body that is only noticeable upon very close inspection(image 4). The necklace is otherwise in substantially fine condition as seen in the images, which represent part of the condition report. The clasp is in good working order.

Size: The necklace measures 15 1/2 inches long. The snake pendant measures 2 3/8 inches long, by 1 inch wide. The stones are approximately 1/8 of an inch wide. The necklace weighs 25.9 grams.
