President John F. Kennedy was
assassinated on November 22, 1963. Plans
for a library had been considered before then; presidential libraries have been
established since 1939 to contain records and other information about
presidents and their administrations.
Here are both a correspondence
card thanking the sender for his/her sympathies upon President Kennedy’s death
and a card from the Kennedy Presidential Library in thanks for a
contribution. (The effects in the
Kennedy library contained not just papers but effects also effects of a
personal nature; therefore, the library’s name was changed to The John
Fitzgerald Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.)
Both cards are in their
envelopes, franked by Mrs. Kennedy.
Those envelopes have the sender’s name whited out, and clearly were not
opened with a paper knife, as you can see in the photos. Otherwise, they’re in good condition.
