LAST

Photos taken in natural light with no flash are pretty true to subtle colors. Both photos of actual fragment may appear slightly more vibrant. It also depends on how one’s monitor is set.

This auction is for a beautiful, luxurious, buttery soft, smooth silk textile fragment salvaged from an antique Victorian, late 1800s velvet shawl/wrap in which this was its lining. This type of silk is very hard to come by and it is amazing for its age of 100 years+. It is so very pliable, will scrunch, pleat, pouf, etc. and is of the perfect weight and texture. It is not flimsy thin and simply has the most wonderful hand. It is truly one of my favorite types of silk. When handled, it has a rustling sound. It is one that must be seen and handled in person to truly appreciate.

Its colors are vibrant and with gorgeous, unique shades of rich pink, rose, turquoise/teal, silvery taupe on a slightly darker shade of taupe ground…..loveliest shimmering quality and simply wonderful to the touch. There are no signs of deterioration or brittleness, nor any surface marks. There are a few age-inherent flaws mentioned below.

High quality fabric….French in origin judging from past silks of my private collection.

It measures approximately 7” across top edge (Note that there are a couple of minor areas of silk thread weakness along top edge which is not a major concern) .

20” along the diagonal

4” top-to-bottom short side

26” along bottom edge (Note silk thread weakness at very edge which is also not a major concern).

14” top-to-bottom on opposite side.
