Description
This book was originally published in Germany in an edition of 2,000 but only 1,000 copies were reserved for the North American market and this copy is number 146 signed by Rodrigue on the limitation statement that is pasted onto the title page by the publisher. Comes with a booklet translating the German of the introductory text into English. Introduction was by Veronica Rodrigue, first wife of the artist, and there is also an overview of the art of Rodrigue written by Charlotte Berney. This book was published in 1992 when the Blue Dogs of Rodrigue were first starting to catch on with the art buying public. Beautiful color plates of the earliest paintings of the Blue Dog of Rodrigue are featured in this book, which was published before the mass market blue dog books which proved to be very popular display items in the bookstore chains. This book precedes the Absolute Vodka advertising campaign which featured not just one but two paintings of Rodrigue's Blue Dog (one of the Blue Dog paintings was for the Absolute Statehood series and the other for its regular vodka ads featuring well known artists doing their interpretation of the Absolute Vodka bottle). This first Blue Dog book is scarce because of the limitation and on account of it having been marketed especially to gallery clientele who had bought a blue dog painting or serigraph. These people tend to hold onto the book. First book in the Blue Dog Series of the late artist George Rodrigue. . SIGNED ON LIMITATION PAGE BY GEORGE RODRIGUE. Special North American Edition Limited. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Illus. by Profusely Illustrated with early George Rodrigue Paintings of the Blue Dog. Quarto, 119pp.
