On offer is a good example of a vintage Couroc small black tray / platter that I believe dates from the 1950s. The tray is inlaid with metal and coins from India, Paraguay and Panama. The one from Panama depicts "Urraca" who was an indian chief. Also included is a Kerr Steamships token. The Kerr Steampship Co. of New York was founded in 1916 and ran passenger and cargo ships. They played an active part in WW1 delivering supplies. Please look carefully at all the pictures as they form part of the item description.

The Couroc company was founded in 1948. They became renowned for their black resin trays and glassware. Under the artistic guidance of Couroc's wife the trays produced were inlaid with shells, coins, corals, metals etc. I did wonder if this tray was produced as a souvenir for the Kerr Steamship company. The Couroc company closed in the early 1990s.

The tray measures about 7" x 6". It has a unique flower design to the centre (at least it is what I believe it to be) that is inlaid with three coins. There are three pretty mottled green "hearts" that I think are the leaves. Beneath the image is a silver coloured "Kerr Steamships" token that is embossed with the company flag design.

There is some minor surface marking & light scratches from handling and use, but nothing that detracts too much. On the back of the tray is the Couroc company label. This is a bit grubby and marked but still readable.

Despite the minor cosmetic faults this is a beautiful vintage piece. It displays well and will make a delightful addition to any collection. Apologies for some of the pictures giving the tray a red tinge - it's just a trick of the light and camera.
