Antique Mughal Bronze Prayer/ Kumkum/Sindoor/Pooja Peacock 6 Compartment Box

The Mughal dynasty (1526–1858) was among the richest and longest ruling in India, and at its peak controlled large portions of the Indian subcontinent. The Mughals were Muslims of Central Asian origin, and Persian was their court language.

The box was likely used to store holy products for rituals and prayers but could also have been used to store kumkum powder or vermillion powder.

In modern day Indian weddings a Kumkum or Sindoor box is given to the bride by the groom during an Indian wedding ceremony.

As a symbol of beauty, wealth, and pride, the Peacock bird appears in many artistic works. The Peacock motif originated in India over 4,000 years ago and it was the symbol of royalty

This is a lovely piece of history and would make a wonderful Indian Wedding gift or a unique display for a collector.
