An unusual vintage cup and saucer, a souvenir from The Spanish Riding School ‘Spanische Hofreitschule’ in Vienna, Austria.

The bowl of the cup is decorated with a rider in a red jacket on a Lipizzaner.

There is a matching band of gilt decoration on the inside rim of the cup and on the edge of the saucer.

The foot and handle of the cup are picked out with a gilt trim.

The cup measures 4.5cm high x 8cm rim diameter; the saucer measures 12.2cm in diameter.

Maker’s mark WB Bavaria on the underside of both the cup and saucer.

Condition: both cup and saucers ‘ring true’, there are no cracks or chips;

very small ‘bobbles’ from the manufacturing process on the external rim area (photo 12).
