Pure silver Commemorative Medal from the 1972 Olympic games in Munich, Germany.  These "coins" were designated as table medals and were supposedly given to dignitaries that were visiting the games.  This coin was collected in Germany in 1972 shortly after the games were held and has been in the family since.  It is beautifully toned in rainbow colors.

The 1972 Olympics were filled with memorable events.  Mark Spitz won seven gold medals in swimming and set a new record for the number of gold medals won.  Olga Korbet won 2 golds in gymnastics.  The final 3 second of the men's basketball game between the U.S.A and Soviet Union were replayed three times until it was decided that the Soviet team had won. And of course, the infamous terrorist attack taking 11 athletes hostage ultimately leading to their deaths.

A true historical piece and a lovely addition to any collection.

Measures 1 3/8 inch in diameter or 35 mm.
